weight & height: 22 pounds and 30 inches long. Almost everywhere we go people assume that you're older than you actually are, and mama is already wondering if she should've sized up more when buying your fall/winter wardrobe since you seem to be getting taller every day! eating & sleeping: A little before you hit your seven month mark we'd switched to a soy formula to try and help with tummy troubles, and a little over a month later the formula is still working well and you're a better fed baby because of it! You've become quite the early bird this past month and we've had a hard time getting you to sleep in past 6:30 in the morning. The early starts to every morning are exhausting, but one plus is that Dada has never once slept past his work alarm at 6:45 so at the very least you're helping him stay punctual. 😉 exciting firsts/milestones: You're still army crawling all over the place, and this past month have started to let us know that we need to start officially baby-proofing our house by standing up against things and climbing up a couple of stairs. The main thing you've learned how to stand up in has been your bassinet, which also means that it's been time to start moving you into your crib! things I love: You love being close to the people you love more than anything right now - mostly mommy but you also love playing with Emery and will cuddle with Daddy when he's home from work. You love playing with toys that you can hold in your hands, and have really taken to balls and the wheels on toy cars. You also LOVE bath time, and we have a hard time keeping you from trying to crawl into the bathrooms at any given time and going straight for the tub/shower. things I don't enjoy so much: Teething has given you a ROUGH go this past month, and the discomfort from that has made you pretty sensitive and random moments. You also don't like being left in a room by yourself (even with toys), and will immediately start crying and crawling to follow to wherever your people have gone off to so that you don't miss out on a single thing. mom & dad's biggest parenting lesson so far: Between you and Emery and teething, growing pains, allergies, bad dreams, and whatever else could interrupt a person's sleep, getting a solid night's rest has been a real challenge for mom and dad this past month. It's really hard to not feel burned out or discouraged with the constant sleep interruptions followed by still busy days, but we're working to take things one day at a time, and have both appreciated earlier bedtimes for everyone in the house to try and get everyone as much rest as possible until things (hopefully) settle down.
You weight & height: 21.5 pounds and 29 inches long. eating & sleeping: Typically you'll go to bed around 8PM and wake up around 7AM in the morning, a little earlier than we're used to but you're always so happy first thing in the morning that the wakeup call is still pleasant. We've officially jumped into the realm of pureed and solid food and so far you've enjoyed it! You love bits of banana for solids and apple & spinach has been your favorite puree! We're STILL trying to find a formula that doesn't upset your stomach, but recently switched to a soy-based one that (fingers crossed) seems to be working, making us wonder if we might need to watch out for some sort of milk/dairy intolerance in the near future. exciting firsts/milestones: This past month you have really started moving & grooving! You can now sit yourself up and stay there unassisted, and are constantly rolling, army-crawling, and lunging yourself across the floor to get to where you've set your mind to! Every day you've had us on our toes thinking that you're about to start full on crawling, but we haven't gotten there quite yet! things I love: You LOVE the independence that learning how to move has given you, and that along with your love for grabbing onto things with your iron-clad grasp has made you quite mischievous! You love playing with toys and books and are so curious about the little details of them. Emery is still your favorite person for playing and laughing with, and Mama is still your favorite person to cuddle up with come bedtime. things I don't enjoy so much: You do NOT under any circumstance like being left alone in a room while awake. You could be surrounded by toys and completely content with mama or Emery playing separately in the room with you, but the second people get up to leave and go somewhere else you'll go into full meltdown mode until mama comes and picks you up to go into whichever room she was originally headed. mom & dad's biggest parenting lesson so far: As much as I hate to admit that it's taken me seven whole months to get to this point, I'm learning now more than ever how important it is for me and dad to adapt how we do things to you personally instead of just trying to do whatever worked for Em at this same stage. You and Emery do get along so well, but are so different in personalities, strengths, struggles, and needs, and we've found that when we really pay attention to taking care of your needs in the way that is best for YOU, things go a lot more smoothly. From your diet, milestones, schedule, etc, you show us more every day how much you're growing into your own person, and we absolutely love you for it!
weight & height: 29 inches long and 20.4 pounds. You have had quite the growth spurt since last month and are now in the 90th percentile for weight and still at the top of the charts at 99th for height! eating & sleeping: Seeing how you've grown confirmed our suspicions of you going through a growth spurt because this past month your eating and sleeping have been all over the place! Most days you'll eat well, but lately the only place you want to sleep is either on mama's chest or in our bed, even waking up in the middle of the night wanting to cuddle in with me and dad. It's been a rough go for everyone as far as sleep goes, but mama's baby app told me that around this age you're recognizing more the relationships and distances of those around you, and it helps put things into perspective when you want to be extra close. exciting firsts/milestones: This past month you got the hang of rolling from your back to your tummy, and it's been pretty fun watching you find ways to roll and squirm around in order to get closer to things that you want (usually to mama). We took you to the beach twice this past month, and so you got to experience ocean and the sand for the first time and love them both! You're also getting better at sitting up on your own for short periods of time, although we still make sure to stay close by just in case you happen to topple over. things I love: Your favorite thing lately has been getting as much playtime and attention as possible, and Emery is hands down your favorite person to play with as long as she remembers to be gentle. You love bath time, and mama has a hard time keeping the splashing to a minimum because when you and Em are both in the bath splashing is the most fun thing that the two of you can do together! You've also really taken an interest in a few small toys and colorful books, and like being able to touch them to get a better feel for the bright colors. things I don't enjoy so much: As of right now you don't love sleeping in your own bed, and you hate feeling like you're being left out of the fun if you feel like you're too far away from anyone in the house. Teething has been a little rough for you this past month as well, but usually can be helped with extra milk and cuddles with mama. mom & dad's biggest parenting lesson so far: Sleep seems to be a pretty big topic this month, and with the lack of it mom & dad have basically tried to learn to appreciate as much of the sleep that we can whenever we can get it, even if it means working on a newborn-ish schedule again. We've also tried to be out-of-the-box thinkers when it comes to finding solutions to the sleep struggle, and have found that when we keep and optimistic mindset and continue to try new things to find what it is that will help you most, that things end up working out ok in due time.
Happy half birthday to our sweet little squish! The time is flying by SO quickly and we're working hard to soak in as many of the little moments as we can!
weight & height: 27 inches and 18.5 pounds. You haven't gotten any longer but have gained two pounds in the past month, putting you in the 80th percentile for weight and 89th for height. We finally found a formula that doesn't upset your stomach and it looks like the positive change is paying off with healthy growth! eating & sleeping: You're still on a full-formula diet and doing well with it! You love your milk and will even ask for it using sign-language occasionally when you're hungry. As far as sleep goes, you're still not fully adapted to the different timezones that we've put you in, but typically will still sleep well through the night and for now are just a bit of an early bird. exciting firsts/milestones: This month has been BIG as far as firsts go for you! You've started rolling over regularly from your tummy to your back (and are so close to rolling back to tummy!), had your first road trip (from Utah to Oregon), and surprised us all when on your five-month mark exactly you cut your first tooth! We were all a little surprised that it came so early on since Em didn't get any teeth until closer to 8 months, but are excited to see you growing so well! things I love: Your favorite thing to do right now is to play with people, and Emery is your favorite person to be close to when you're in that playful mood. Silly sounds make you laugh like crazy, and you've recently learned how to blow raspberries with your mouth and think it's a pretty neat trick. You love chewing on your hands, blankets, or pretty much anything that you can get into your mouth (except a pacifier). You love rides in the stroller outside, and still love being held and cuddled to sleep, specifically with Mama. things I don't enjoy so much: During your first road trip from Utah to our new home in Oregon, you were much less of your easy-going self as usual and were pretty upset for some decent stretches of the drive, making us wonder if you don't care much for long drives. You were also cutting your tooth at the same time though and we just didn't realize it, so it could be that you just really don't like teething. We've got a couple more summer trips coming up soon, and I suppose will find out which one it was! mom & dad's biggest parenting lesson so far: This past month I feel like you've come really far with learning how to communicate what it is that you're needing and/or wanting from us, and it's been really exciting watching that growth and working on ourselves to be really in-tune to your cues so that we can all better communicate together. Things seem to go so much more smoothly when we are able to watch and listen to these cues, and it all just makes us so excited for everything that's to come as you continue to learn and grow!
weight & height: About 16.5 pounds and 27 inches long. eating & sleeping: Eating for almost the first time is going really well, we finally found a formula that doesn't seem to upset your tummy, and even though you still spit up a bit more than the average baby are back to being our happy babe during meal times! With sleep you do really well and go about 10 ish hour stretches at night, but switching over to Utah time has thrown you off a little bit, making it so that you've made an odd habit of waking up consistently between 5:30 and 6AM every morning, but then falling right back asleep the second you're cuddled into mommy's spot on the bed. We can't really figure out why it's become a habit, but since the overall stretch of sleep is good we're not complaining too much about it! exciting firsts/milestones: This past month has been a big one for you containing a lot of firsts, some of which some kiddos probably don't experience until they're much older but such is life I suppose! This past month along with your first ever cross-country move had the chance to have your first ever plane ride as we said good-bye to Louisville and moved to Utah before heading up to Oregon. Since getting to Utah, you've also had your first haircut (you still have that sweet little fohawk, we just trimmed the top to even it up a bit), and met two of your three living great-grandparents along with aunts, uncles, and cousins. things I love: Your curious personality has really shined through this past month, and that means that you love being upright and held outwards so that you can see all of the things happening around you. You've discovered your feet this past month as well and constantly have a hold on them. You still love people, attention, and funny noises, and Emery along with Nan can always get you to smile and laugh, and luckily for mama you still LOVE being cuddled, and your favorite place to nap is right on mommy's chest with a fistful of my hair in your hand. things I don't enjoy so much: As you've gotten older we've noticed that you have a bit of the same fomo as big sister, making it so that if you feel like you're being left out of the fun or are too far away from a party of people you'll make it known that you want to be in where all the fun is at! We also learned once getting to Utah that you don't like to be the least bit cool or cold while sleeping, and adding a sleep-sack to your bedtime routine has been a must to help you sleep comfortably in Nan & Papa's usually cool basement. mom & dad's biggest parenting lesson so far: Life this past month has been nothing short of crazy since we're all technically homeless and living out of suitcases and amongst grandparents and a constant flow of cousins (bless Nan & Papa for basically having a real-life "Full House" situation currently 😂), but to try and counteract the craziness we've tried really hard to keep as much of a "regular" routine for you, Emery, and ourselves as possible. Obviously because of our circumstances it doesn't always work out as planned, but we're hoping that by trying to keep things in somewhat of a regular flow that it will help the overall transition from Kentucky to Utah and eventually to Oregon go a little bit smoother for everyone, and allow us all to find a little bit of calm in what can sometimes feel like a constant stream of chaos.
