Last week Kyle & I had the opportunity to celebrate our sweet little Emery with a blessing day. I've mentioned before on this blog that I believe in God, so this blessing day for us was an opportunity for our daughter to receive a blessing of love from her Father in Heaven through her father here on earth. We chose to bless her when she was only a week old so that my parents could be there for it as well, and kept the occasion intimate with just a couple of our closest friends out here attending along with my parents. Emery's dress was the same one that I was blessed in as a baby and is about 50 years old (it was also used as a christening dress for my mom's sisters growing up). I LOVE that the dress she wore already has so much history and sweet tradition tied to it, and am planning on passing it down to her so that if someday she has a daughter and wants to dress her in it she can. I know I'm super grateful that my mom kept some of my special baby things for me to give to Emery and hope to one day be able to do the same thing for her. :)
The whole day was such a special experience for our little family and I'm glad that we had it! Kyle and I spent countless hours while I was pregnant talking about our hopes and dreams for our daughter, and the things that matter so much to us that we hope will matter most to her as well as she grows. Her blessing day felt like an opportunity to finally share some of those thoughts with Emery directly through a sweet and simple prayer from her father, and amidst the craziness of adjusting to a newborn baby while moving into a new apartment, was a perfect reminder for me to slow down, take a deep breath, and cherish in the moment the things that matter most. I love my sweet little family!
