Sometimes you just need a random road trip to mix up life a little bit.
So this past weekend, that is exactly what we decided to do! All of the boys in our group of friends had just finished their first official semester of dental school (yahoo!) and we all felt like we needed to do something to celebrate! On top of that, it was mine and Kyle's two-year wedding anniversary, and in the craziness of life we still hadn't planned anything to do to celebrate it. One night we were talking amongst all of our friends about how much fun a trip would be, and within a couple of days we were on the road to Chicago! I am SO glad that us going was such a spur of the moment type of thing. I feel like as I've gotten older, I've felt the need to fit my life into a perfect cookie-cutter plan, so this is something I don't think that I ever would have done just on my own. It was such a good reminder to me to sometimes just let things happen and to "go with the flow". Life doesn't always need a plan, and sometimes the best things can come out of life's unexpected and unplanned moments!
This trip was such a fun experience overall, and because of who I am I took a TON of pictures while we were there! To not overwhelm all of you with a million slides of the trip, I've tried to pick out a few of my favorite pictures (don't worry, there are still a lot of them), and have basically summarized this trip into three different categories of what I thought made Chicago a pretty awesome place to visit! So here you go! Enjoy! :D
The Art & Architecture.
Chicago has SO much beautiful art and architecture to appreciate literally all over the city! Our first day there we decided to all do a trolley bus tour which I would HIGHLY recommend doing if you were ever to go visit (Here is a Groupon Deal for it you go before the end of the year). Chicago is such a HUGE city, and it was so nice to be able to see so much of it from an ideal view point! Plus the tour guides were really knowledgable and had a ton of fun stories about the city and different buildings that we wouldn't have heard otherwise! Here are a few pictures of some of my favorite buildings (click on the pictures for a few more details).
The food that we tried that was the most unique to Chicago was the one and only Chicago Style Pizza! We went to a restaurant called Giordano's and I can confidently say that if you were to choose a last meal for yourself, this could be a good one to consider. Deep dish, thick crust, a pound of hot, gooey, melted cheese mixed in with all of the delicious toppings and covered in marinara sauce seasoned to perfection..... need I say more?
Making Memories With The BEST Of Company!
I cannot tell you how much I loved having the chance to travel with such wonderful friends! Not only does it help to keep costs low for everyone (we were able to save on our hotel, gas, and parking which is INSANELY expensive in Chicago BTW), but it was also so great to be able to have so many people to share the experience with! This may just be my extremely extroverted opinion, but I loved being able to experience the trip with everyone's different perspectives and personalities. It brought a magic to the trip that definitely would have been lacking otherwise. Thanks so much for all the fun memories, and hopefully this was the first of many trips that we will take together while all going through our dental school adventure together! Here are a few more pictures of the crew: (Apologies in advance for taking so many pictures of my friend's adorable little toddler. Apparently not having kids of my own causes me to gravitate towards photographing everyone else's!) Be sure to click on the pictures for more details! :D
