January makes me so restless sometimes.
Actually, it makes me restless ALL of the time. Every year after the excitement of the holidays wear off and the cold weather sets in, I find myself wanting to crawl into a state of habitation until Spring comes and it's warm enough to leave the house. I thought that Kentucky winters would be a little bit better since they are much further south than where we previously came from, but thanks to El Niño we've had temperatures here just as cold as we dealt with in Utah but with less snow, and needless to say, I only left the house when absolutely necessary. Gratefully though that cold weather didn't seem to want to stay permanent, and this past weekend KY saw some absolutely GORGEOUS weather reaching up to 60 degrees. Kyle was a dear and pulled me out of my hermit-ish slump, and suggested that we go outside for some fresh air and "walk the bridge" to celebrate the warmer temperatures. I was dying to get out and do something that wasn't housework, and quickly agreed to the plan!
Let me just talk for a minute about how much I've decided that I LOVE walking the bridge. For anyone that hasn't heard of it, the actual name of the bridge is the Big Four Bridge, and it's essentially one of the oldest bridges in Louisville that runs across the Ohio River to connect Kentucky to Indiana. It was originally a railroad track (the lines in the above pictures show where the railroad used to be) but has since been converted into a darling walking/biking trail for all to enjoy! Along the walk there are benches for people to sit on and take in the view, as well as a few neat historical installments that tell you a little bit more about the bridge's original use. All of that was super neat to experience, but more than anything I just really loved being able to get outside in the fresh air and go on a walk with Kyle. Before dental school, we would go on walks and bike rides with our camera on a regular basis and just have fun, but between school, pregnancy, and the January cold it had been a while since we had been able to get out! It was such a good reminder of how important it is to make time for each other, and the things that we enjoy doing together! I'm so glad that Kyle was smart enough to think of the little date activity for us, and now feel 100% refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to leave January behind and take on February with a much more positive attitude. :) Here's to hoping that the temperatures stay at least a little bit warmer so that we're able to get out for another exploratory walk soon!
We hope that all of our friends and loved ones have had a great start to the year so far!
Here's to February and all of the adventures ahead!
Lots of Love! -Kyle & Chelsea Pett-
